About
MotherNatureTalks.com is a pilgrimage led by Catherine Nemetz, who wishes to pioneer for herself and any other interested travelers, a journey into rethinking the entire concept of eating and food sourcing. Current mainstream media is spilling over with news of eating organically and why it’s better for our health. We are learning what the “list” is to buy of must have organic produce vs. the produce that’s “ok” to buy non-organically. We are being educated about the hazards of factory farmed meats and the toxic effects of pesticides and herbicides. Some ketchup companies are now advertising “no High Fructose Corn Syrup” on bottles, as the media has successfully educated us to the link between High Fructose Corn Syrup and blood sugar spikes... which eventually can lead to obesity and diabetes.
Despite all the articles, news shows and media drips, we continue our patterns of eating (for the most part) and “grocery shopping trips” are business as usual. As with ANY behavior pattern, it takes work, dedication and commitment to eliminate behaviors and adopt new ones in their place. Most of us say to ourselves, “We should be eating more organically...” or “I would really like to change my eating one day”. These are just words that placate the mind into staying in the zone it feels most comfortable. The “let’s not do anything today” zone.
Armed with her own process of shifting her diet and adopting “food sourcing” instead of “grocery shopping”, Catherine is a living example of what this lifestyle entails. She has decided to share her experiences one by one, season by season, so that others can truly understand this transformative process and embark on the same journey.
Catherine’s approach embraces using as little “packaged” foods as possible in her diet, choosing to make her own food products, instead of paying a large factory to do it for her. She has made this choice to show both herself and others how absolutely economical and savings-friendly this Mother Nature lifestyle can be.
The setting for this journey lies in a rural area of Pennsylvania. Surrounded by fresh farm fields and Amish and Mennonite cultures, Catherine has re-learned age-old traditions of preserving and canning and combined them with freezer storage, winter cold storage and food dehydration. Step-by-step she will share these techniques with easy to understand instruction and photography. The combined methods embrace our past traditions and utilize present technologies, so that a new way of sourcing and preparing food emerges.
